Location Blarney (Co. Cork, Ireland), "Blarney Castle & Gardens", path south of the parking site
Comment view a little more to the left - now you can see for the first time the ruins of "Blarney Castle" - excerpt from Wikipedia: The original wooden castle at this location was built in the 10th century, but was replaced by a stone structure in 1210. After its destruction, the King of Munster, "Dermot McCarthy", had it restored as a family home. The keep was preserved from this building. "Oliver Cromwell's" troops took the castle with cannon in 1646, but found that the residents had fled through three long tunnels along with all their valuable items. Fifteen years later, when "Charles II" ascended the throne of England, the "McCarthy" family regained possession of the castle. In 1690 all Irish nobles were dispossessed and disempowered. The "McCarthys" were forced to leave "Blarney Castle". In 1703 the Governor of Cork, "Sir James Jefferyes", purchased the property. ?
