Location Callanish (Island part of Lewis, Outer Hebrides, Scotland, United Kingdom), the Callanish Standing Stones
Comment excerpt from "My Highlands.de": there are many great stone circles in the Highlands, but Callanish on the Isle of Lewis is different. Much more complex and wild. In contrast to other stone circles, the Stones of Callanish or Gaelic "Calanais" are not evenly carved - this gives the individual stones their very own character. In addition, Callanish consists not just of a simple circle, but of several interwoven geometric shapes, in the center of which stands a large monolith four and a half meters high. A real stone giant. The surrounding menhirs are lower, so it almost looks like it rises towards the middle. In general, everything converges towards this one center: long lines meet in the middle from three sides, and a kind of avenue of stones even approaches the circle from the north. If you were to fly over it as a bird, you could see how the monoliths form the shape of a gigantic Celtic cross.
