There is a saga about the hole in the mountain: The insubordinate son of the Troll King "Vågakallen", "Hestmannen" lived in "Svolvær", Lofoten Islands. On the other side of the "Vestfjorden" lived the mighty Troll King "Sulitjelmakongen", who had seven daughters, one was wilder than the other. Therefore "Sulitjelmakongen" sent his daughters to the honest virgin "Lekamøya". One fine evening, "Hestmannen" looked across the "Vestfjorden" and saw "Lekamøya" taking a bath in the fjord of "Landego" and combing her hair. Immediately "Hestmannen" desired her. In full armor, he galloped his horse over the "Vestfjorden". "Lekamøya" and the seven sisters went on a stampede. The seven sisters could already imagine, to take "Hestmannen" for husband and crouched down beside each other at "Alstahaug". But "Hestmannen" did not look at them because he only had eyes for "Lekamøya". However, as she became more and more margin, he took his bow and shot an arrow at her. This, however, observed the Troll King of "Sømna" and threw his hat into the path of the arrow. The through-and-through shot hat fell down on the island "Torgar". About the wild chase all forgot how short the summer nights in the north are and already the sun was rising and all solidified into stone, where they were sitting or standing.
