"Niels Juel" class corvette [FFL] an 2nd ship of type KV 72 (3 vessels) - belonging to the 2nd squadron (foreign affairs), Korsør Naval Base. Among the Danish public the "Olfert Fischer" is probably the most well-known of all the ships of the Royal Danish Navy due to its participation in both the 1991 Gulf War and the 2003 Iraq War. In both wars the ship played an essential role to the allied forces. - Main armament: 8x RGM-84C Harpoon SSM, 2x 6-round VLS SAM system (16 Sea Sparrow missiles), 2x 4-round short range Stinger SAM launcher, 1x 76-mm gun OTO Melara Compact DP, 2x 20-mm AA-gun Oerlikon - the ship was decommissioned in 2009 and broken up in 2013 |
