About me
I was born in Hamburg-Blankenese in the early 1950s, for me the most beautiful part of Hamburg, and lived there until I was 16 years old. The proximity of the River Elbe as well as the fact, that my Father was a seaman, are the basis for my connection to this river, navigation and ships in general.
In June 2005 I started taking digital photographs of ships. Originally my intention was just to create a
private database, but after a while I decided to send photos of general interest to the extensive and very informative
website >www.ship-photo.de< at that time. At the beginning of 2006 the idea of creating my own website
>www.dragons-schiffsfotos.de< took shape.
Beginning of 2010 I had to reduce all activities due to massive health problems which also resulted in the closing of my old
website in summer 2010.
Due to many requests, when I'll go online again, I decided by the end of 2010, much earlier than originally planned, to
reopen my website, but under a different name. In contrast to my old website the name of the new one
>www.ships-and-funnels.de< definite shows the focus on my main interests but the website itself is still based on the old
one, including some changes: an increase in ship categories and a clearer differentiation between German and English
language.
Some details about the content: because of the high number of different websites including ship photos in 2006, at that time I
decided to vary my website in such a way to offer the technical data available and up to 3 photos of each ship, taken from
different angles. Additionally visitors of this website could also find a collection of funnel signs - from my point of view
propably the best organized and largest collection of a single photographer - (an old hobby from childhood). Furthermore I
offer a beautiful collection of impressions.
Since October 2006 I'm involved in the German website www.schiffsarchiv.de and sent in related photos, until summer 2010 as user "Dragon" and since summer 2010 as user "Dieter".
Since November 2007 I also send photos to the website www.vesseltracker.com. There I'm registered as user "Dragon2".
Additionally you will find a large number of my ship photos in the database of www.ship-db.de.
